Its official, the Quest crow’s nest has now left the UK shores aboard the MV Scout.
On September 1922, Quest departed the UK, heading South on an Antarctic adventure under Sir Ernest Shackleton’s command. Following the death of Shackleton and a short expedition to the Weddell Sea, Quest returned to the UK in 1923. The crows nest was removed and has remained in the UK ever since, sat in a church crypt in London. This is the first time the crows nest has been on loan and is now heading back South to the sub-Antarctic to feature in the exhibition, Shackleton’s Last Quest.
